Adult Improv Workshops
Wednesdays and Sundays | $130 per term
The Court Theatre runs three levels of Improv Classes for participants aged 18 years and older.
Spontaneity workshops require no prior improvisation or performance experience. This series of eight workshops focuses on encouraging participants’ sense of play and fun – both on-stage and off. Fundamental improvisation games and techniques are introduced in a warm, supportive environment, in which everyone is encouraged to discover the naughty child in themselves!
Narrative workshops assume some knowledge of basic improvisation, and as a general rule are open only to those who have completed Spontaneity. In these classes, we look at how to create satisfying stories and scenes “off-the-cuff”, learning the techniques to engage and delight audiences and your fellow players alike.
Performance classes are aimed at those who have completed both the Spontaneity and Narrative courses. Participants will work for an eight week term on putting an improvised performance together, which will be staged at The Court Theatre at the conclusion of each course. The focus of this course will change each term, addressing such performance styles as Theatresports, musicals, long and short-forms and the ‘Gorilla’ director format. Entry to the Performance class is upon application to the Education Manager.
NB: Because everyone learns improv differently, these courses are not to be seen as a direct progression, and as such students will be encouraged to take each course as many times as they wish – the experience is bound to be different and useful each time. At the conclusion of each course, individuals will receive a private feedback session from the tutor.
The cost for each of these eight week courses will be $130 inc. GST.
All Term 1 participants will receive a card entitling them to $5 entry to all Scared Scriptlesses in Court One, valid for the duration of each course.
