Matt Powell

Matt found his way into a High School Theatre Sports team when his school team’s reserve broke his arm a week before the final. He bravely essayed a Welsh accent in a scene about coal miners: the team lost horribly, but the judges made special mention of the accent. Matt spent several years
learning, and later teaching, improvisation at university, representing the University of Canterbury at both local and national levels, before joining the Court Jesters in late 2002 alongside several of the friends he had made there. A strong narrative player with skills in wordplay, music, and physicality, Matt is also an accomplished writer and director of children’s theatre, and teaches writing at the School For Young Writers.
