Hamish Oliver

Hamish has a Master’s degree in composition and is a freelance composer, arranger, musical director and performer for television, film and theatre. He has been performing music for improvised drama for thirteen years with the Improvisors in Wellington and the Court Jesters and the Outwits in Christchurch, and is known for his enthusiasm for weaving well-known film and TV theme music into improvised scenes. He lectures courses in digital audio software and music theory at Canterbury University, Christchurch Polytechnic, and the Music and Audio Institute of New Zealand. Hamish has performed with Hayley Westenra, Serj Tankian, Bic Runga, Aled Jones, Anika Moa, Michael Barrymore, Christchurch Symphony, and Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra among others. In 2008, he was Musical Director for an Australian tour by Aled Jones and also for musicals at the Court Theatre, NASDA (National Academy of Singing and Dramatic Arts), and Showbiz Christchurch. He was composer for the Court Theatre productions of Under Milk Wood in 2008 and The Raft in 2007, and has composed for a feature film and several TV series and short films.
